Chocolate 101 | Taste and Learn

Join Boston Chocolate School and Chef Tim Brown for our new Chocolate 101 | Taste and Learn class where you sample a variety of carefully selected chocolates and learn a little more about the process from bean to bar. You don’t need any specialized knowledge or formal training in the field.

Our Chocolate 101 class provide a marvelous way to spend a Saturday afternoon among friends. Even culinary novices will leave with a full understanding of where chocolate has come from and where it’s going.

Chocolate 101 explores the rich history and travels of the cacao bean, from the mountains of Peru and its divine history among royals to the sweet delicacies we enjoy today. From bean to bar, you will learn how chocolate is made, from the original growth of the cacao bean to its harvest, processing, and preparation.

Chocolate 101 also features a chocolate tasting, which teaches you how to truly experience and enjoy chocolate of different flavors and nuances. You will also be offered the opportunity to sample chocolate from local artisans across New England – from stone ground, organic chocolate to delicate truffles – our samples vary from month to month and season to season.

Boston Chocolate School’s Chocolate 101 class takes place on Saturdays in the private dining room of the Elephant & Castle Restaurant at 161 Devonshire Street, in Boston’s Financial District. Come early and have brunch in the fabulous dining room, or head to their bar to purchase a scrumptious mimosa to sip on during class!

Chef Tim Brown now finds himself in a position that enables him to shape the Pastry Chefs of tomorrow at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island as one of the faculty members at the School of Culinary Arts. Here Tim enjoys being able to introduce students to all aspects of baking and pastry especially chocolate.
