September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

In Honor of  Zach who is fighting Childhood Cancer

Every Friday on Facebook, we highlight one of our Mystery Cafe performers in a #FridayFeature. But today is special, as we are choosing to honor of both one of our favorite actors, Deric Bender, and his nephew Zach who is currently fighting Childhood Cancer. As many of you know, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month and we want to do our part to bring attention to this worthy cause.

Deric has a degree in Theater Performance from the University of New Hampshire and has been with the Mystery Café as a full time cast member since 2007. He is also an Emcee, DJ, Stand-Up Comedian, Improv Comedian and Teambonding Facilitator. Deric’s livelihood is based entirely on delivering fun to public and corporate groups all over the country, and he loves to perform in front of an audience.

In addition to all of this, Deric’s amazing nephew Zach has been fighting stage 3 Neuroblastoma since 2011 when he was only 2 years old. Nueroblastoma is a common childhood cancer that is both treatable and curable. With Zach, we are going for the cure!

To that effect, Deric is participating in a fundraising CureSearch Walk on October 25th which honors and celebrates children whose lives have been affected by cancer. All the money raised will support CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, a non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children’s cancer research, with measurable results.
